A Note From The Faculty (ADTNJ Board Members Gail, Helen, & Karen):

Our Inspiration...

As members of Associated Dance Teachers of New Jersey's certification examining committee, we have noticed that far too many applicants for membership are not fully prepared to teach dance.  Many new (and even veteran) teachers, although very capable and talented dancers, do not fully understand what should be taught when and why, have little knowledge of music theory and basic anatomy, class format and terminology and are not well rounded in the basic disciplines of dance. (Ballet, Tap & Jazz)

Our Goals….

Our goal is to share our many years of teaching experience with other teachers.  To pass on the information that has been successfully tried and trusted by us.  The fundamentals, syllabi, terminology and essential elements for dance educators that are used and accepted by major dance organizations including Dance Masters of America, Dance Educators of America and Associated Dance Teachers of New Jersey is the basis for this workshop.

Our Passion….

We are local dance educators with successful schools who are passionate about raising the bar for dance education, providing educators with the proper tools to elevate their teaching methods and to place the art of Dance on the highest pedestal it so definitely deserves.  We want to share our love of dance, teaching and insights with everyone.

Testimonials From Last Summer's Prototype Teacher's Training Class...

"The Teacher Workshop Course was motivational, educational and fun.  The material was presented in an organized manner with notes for each weekly class including terminology and technique for all forms of dance.  The extensive notes received for the anatomy portion of the course were very impressive. Students understanding of how the muscles of the body work in conjunction with the brain to create movement is a helpful tool in their attempt to executing steps properly and with control.  I finished the course feeling prepared with the knowledge and study material needed to pass testing in every form of dance."  ~ Jackie S. (Teaching Dance for over 20 years).

"I have been teaching dance for the past 10 years or so, I've also attended many work shops including Dance Educators of America Teacher Training and am a current member of Associated Dance Teachers of NJ.  This past summer I attended the Teacher Workshop held at Mary Lou Hale's dance studio and got a ton out of it. There is so much information, styles, techniques and pieces of knowledge out there from so many different teachers and this really brought them all together in one easy and very put together format. From different steps for all ages and levels, to basic anatomy, and musicality it really covered all areas and got the information across clearly.  It is also a great refresher and brought back a lot of technique and methods that over time slip out of mind.  The workshop really got me motivated and recharged for the dance season!!" ~ Danielle D. (D.E.A. & ADTNJ Member).

"I thought the Teacher Training Program was very educational and interactive. The material was well organized and presented enthusiastically, which kept us all "focused". You successfully modeled the philosophy..."When the teacher is excited to teach the students are excited to learn." Afterall, isn't that what we do in our dance classes? We are excited about what we do and can share with our students and believe that they too will get excited about movement and the arts.   I believe that all of the teachers who took this session are well equipped for certification and have gained a wealth of information/ideas to use during instruction time.  I applaud Gail and Karen for putting this program together. Your dedication to dance education is inspiring. Thanks." ~ Judie W. (Teaching Dance for over 20 years and ADTNJ Member).

"I attended the "Teachers Workshop" over the summer and found it to be a treasure chest of knowledge. Going over basic material to the more advanced information for any dancer was covered.  A dancer needs to know about their body, we went over our Anatomy in class. We talked about all dance styles Ballet, Jazz, and Tap to name a few. We went over what we need to know about Music and Choreography. I can't stress how valuable all the information was. I think it would be great workshop for everyone to attend. It's new information for new Teachers and for ones who have been teaching for a while, it would be a good refresher course.  We as Teachers need to stay on top of the latest information and refresh our brains. How do we Teach? We teach by sharing information WE'VE learned. I totally recommend taking the Workshop if you have the opportunity to." ~ Gretchen S. (Teaching Dance for over 10 years).

"I took the teacher's workshop in the summer of 2010 in order to prepare for the ADTNJ teachers exam, as well as to freshen up on my dancing and teaching skills.  I thought the workshop was great!  I didn't realize how much I forgot until we started going through all of the material.   It really helped me a lot.  I was able to pass the ADTNJ exam with flying colors, and I feel that with my refreshed knowledge I am an even better teacher than before." ~  Deanna S. (Teaching Dance for over 10 years and ADTNJ Member).
