2011 WINNING ESSAYS: HOW DOES MY
OWN DANCE TEACHER(S) INFLUENCE ME?
Catherine (Katie) Acito, Age 13, Moderne Academie...My dance teacher influences me in many ways. She is supportive, respectful, and pushes me to the limit. These traits help me to be a growing and beautiful dancer. She influences me with support because when I know someone is there to help me, it helps me let go and be free. She influences me with respect because she doesn't yell at me or put me down. If I do something wrong, this makes me feel better because I know that it is ok to make mistakes. She influences me by pushing me to the limit. This helps me to know to always try my hardest, and do my best at everything. I know to give 110%.
Isabella Bernardo, Age 12, Moderne Academie...My dance teahers are the people who push me to my capacity, help me discover my talents, and pursuade me to have the mind set that I can do anything if I try. Everytime I walk out of the dance room I really feel I can face the world. Everytime they scream "higher" or "stronger" as I'm leaping through the air they influence and make a mark on me that I can be amazing. You can ask any dance student, dance teachers change your body and you. They influence me to do great things and I'm grateful for them.
Kaylee Greydanus, Age 12, Pocono Dance Center...My dance teacher influences me to learn more and never leave or quit. She is nice and a loving woman. I have been with her since I was 3 years old. Ever since I was in the same dancing school, I have grown attached to her as my dance teacher. The way my teacher influences me because she is a great dancer and teacher and she has been dancing for many years. My dance teacher is a former Radio City Rockette.
Matthew Losco, Age 10, Ziegler Dance Center...My dance teachers influence me in many positive ways. When I started dance I only did hip hop and acrobatics. My teachers saw potential in me and encouraged me to take jazz, tap, ballet, and lyrical. My teachers also influence me by encouraging me to take workshops whenever they are available so I can broaden my dance knowledge. My dance teachers constructively criticize my dances so I can improve my technique. I am the dancer I am today because of the positive influence of my dance teachers.
Pauline Paviera, Age 11, ATD Dancenter...My dance teachers influence me when they teach me a new step. If I don't get it the first time, my teachers tell me to keep going until I get it right. It teaches me that no matter what life brings, I just have to keep going until I reach my dreams or goals. When I learn a new step it teaches me not to practice it once, but all the time until I get it right. It teaches me in life that when I want to do great, I must put all my best to attain my dreams or goals.
Caitlin Purcell, Age 12, Perna Dance Center...My dance teachers have influenced my life in many ways. They have taught me to never give up especially when things are hard and that I can do anything, anything I set my mind to. These lessons have helped me with many things in my life, not just dance. For example, I struggle with math, but through dance I have learned that if I just concentrate and work hard I will do well. All my dance teachers are truly an endless source of inspiration.
Devyn Schaal, Age 11, Pocono Dance Center...My dance teacher, Mrs. Carrie, influences me with her patience. Mrs. Carrie is very patient when she shows me a routine and I learn the new steps she helps me. Mrs. Carrie helps me to learn and it is ok if I don't get it the first time I know with her patience I will get it. Mrs. Carrie influences me to do my best and I am proud of what I can do. I enjoy dance very much and it is because of my dance teacher. She praises me and makes me feel good.
